Apples: Monday

                                                                   Morning Free Play!

Our morning message today stated that today was the last day in August!

Our Friend helping lead us in the alphabet and letter sounds songs.

Counting the 31 days of August.
Our theme for the week, apples was introduced to us at circle. We explored yellow, green and red apples. We talked about different characteristics that apples have. Some words we came up with were round, smooth, crunchy and yummy. We will continue to expand our vocabulary with different apple words throughout the week.

Before introducing centers we used apples to measure different classroom items. This was a warm up activity getting us ready for our apple measuring centers time.
Zippy the puppet is 4 apples long.

The Chicka Chicka Boom Boom book was taller then zippy and measured 8  apples long.

And our pointer was 6 apples long.

After measuring different classroom items we measured how tall we are at centers with apples.

When we were done being measured we completed an apple measuring page. On this page we had the opportunity to draw how many apples tall we are. We also named something or someone we are taller and shorter then.

During this activity we are making comparisons, measuring and using numbers to show quantity.

We also worked on our scissor skills while cutting apples pages. We really focused on holding the scissor the proper way with our thumb up. Cutting with scissors accomplishes so many goals. Some of these goals include showing persistence, using problem solving skills, taking initiative and uses fine motor skills with control.

After measuring herself with apples this friend decided to measure her baby doll with legos.

Selling apples in our Apple Market! During this activity the children are  using symbolic development and representing their feelings and ideas in a variety of ways. During dramatic play the children are also working cooperatively with one another and building relationships of mutual trust and respect.

At Jesus time we talked about the first sin. We learned about how perfect the Garden of Eden was until Adam and Eve listened to the sneaky snake and ate an apple from the tree that God specifically told them not to eat from. We then further discussed that we all sin but God sent Jesus to die on the cross and wipe away our sins.
