Fall: Wednesday

                                                                 Having Fun Outside!

We went on a leaf hunt outside. We talked about the different colors leaves change in the fall and then went for a walk to collect leaves.
During our walk we discovered that leaves come in all sizes and shapes.
We found small, medium and big leaves.

We also explored the different shapes of the leaves. We noticed that different trees have different shaped leaves. Some shapes we used to describe the leaves included hearts, ovals, stars, feathers and fans.

We celebrated Ellie's Birthday today. Ellie is 5 years old today. Happy Birthday, Sweet Friend!
Thanks for sharing the yummy cookies with us.

Our morning message said, "Today is Ellie's Birthday!"

Our calendar helper leading us in counting the 7 days of October!
At circle time we read, Colorful Leaves. This book was very informative about why leaves change color in the fall. Leaves change color in the fall because when cooler weather occurs the leaves don't produce as much chlorophyll which causes the leaves colors to change.

After reading the book we sorted the leaves we found outside by color.
Many of our leaves had two to three colors in them so it was an interesting task to sort the leaves by color.

Some of our friends put their leaf in between two colors because the leaf had both colors.

Watch the fall color changes in leaves with your child throughout the fall season!

Working on making fall creations with nature items and play dough at centers.

We also started creating our leaf reports. While participating in the exploration of the leaf we identified the leaf's size, color, how many blocks long the leaf was, and why we liked the leaf. We also drew a picture of our leaf.
This activity helps us explore the physical properties of leaves and gives us the opportunity to make  observations about the physical world in a variety of ways.
We drew pictures about Our leaf hunt outside!

                                                        Relaxing in the reading area!

Working on more leaf reports!

Drawing together in the writing area!
At Jesus time we reviewed the story of Joseph through pictures. Joseph received a coat of many colors from his father which made his brothers jealous. The brother's jealousy resulted in them being very unkind to Joseph. Joseph's brothers sold him as a slave to people from Egypt. Several years later there was a famine and Joseph's brothers went to Egypt for food. Joseph saw his brothers in Egypt and gave them food. Joseph forgave his brothers because he loved them despite all they put Joseph through. We discussed how God wants us to love and forgive our family members just like Joseph did!
